were do I start....j is not a poorly kid,had had one day off school last year with an upset stomach
first day back at school after summer I got called to collect him,he had a banging headache, was seeing blurry&dizzy,he came home&laid on the sofa..about 30 mins later he asked for some mini hobnobs&i thought:hmm: are u pulling a fast one,so i gave him them&left the room.i peeped thru the door&j couldnt get his hand to his mouth,he was also tipping his head from side to side,i asked what was wrong&he said the curtains were not straight!he also couldnt stand noise or light,he had no temperature but fell fast asleep on the sofa(not like him)&was sick later that night
i took him to the doctors&he suggested it cud be his diazepam&to stop it or a virus&if no better thurs to take him back.he was then fine till friday when i got a call from school again&had to get him,he was laid out in the medical room,so back we went to the doctors
he wants some blood tests to rule out anaemia
well.the headaches were back this morning&he ran out of school after me
again he is on the sofa being very quiet,he keeps hearing noises in his ears
school rang and the head asked me"do you think because he is getting a lot of attention at the moment hes playing on it"
i said"no he said he was sick" to which she replied "hmm well i dont think so"
she asked how our camhs apt went yesterday&i told her i have connors reports,a computer test is being arranged&the head of specialism says its almost definate ADHD&poss ODD she then started banging on about
hisbehaviour:blahblah:
ITOld her he having blood tests to rule out anaemia she said"oh ok,well we'l have to see!"
just wondered if anyone has any advice on the headaches as there is no pattern to them&when the come they really knock him for 6 then he can be ok after a couple of hours,it not like j to sleep thru the day&be quiet or to complain or lie about being ill, like I told the head"if he was the kind of kid that makes up being ill surelly he would have done so when he was bullied and threatened with a knife!
i just feel she thinks its all my doing and that j is just naughty, she is not very supportive at all:explode:

they sound like migrains to me, they can make you sensative to sound and light, they can cause you to throw up and can knock you for 6, they have no patten, though stress, or even certain types of foods ie cheese, chocolate, or they don't need a reason, I would ask you Dr if this could be a posibility. Hope this helps x

I would agree with Kebab and try and rule out (or rule in) either Migraine or (also) Cluster Headaches.

As a 3rd generation sufferer and the parent of a 4th generation sufferer (sorry Charlotte for passing them onto you!) I am only too aware of how awful they are to have and how dreadful it is to watch your child suffer with them....

All sorts of things can be a trigger, but the symptoms are very much how you describe. Light sensitivity.....noise sensitivity (my tinitus gets unbearable when I have a migraine)....blurred vision....vomiting and nausea....

If you know the trigger (cheese, chocolate, red wine and caffine are great triggers) but mine are also caused by E numbers. (Especially Orange! Ouch)

Charlotte can't eat cornflakes, anything RED or BLUE as she gets either hyper or a migraine or both! Certain brown food is also highly suspect.

Have you asked him where the pain is? It's often above or behind one eye, but not always. It is (in my experience) a horrendous throbbing pain. Much worse than anything I have so far experienced (including natural childbirth!).

Has he had a new addition to his diet? Or have the ingredients recently changed in an old favourite?

Is he stressed by something new? Anything looming on the horizon? Something at school? A smell can trigger a migraine (certain perfume sends me reeling) so that has to be a possibility.

I'd ask the Dr too.

Good luck.

j's pain was on one side of his head&his eyeballs hurt,he also had a stiff neck&sore legs,(dr ruled out meningitis last time thank god)Im gonna keep track of what he eats&see if anything triggers it,he rarely has chocolate& there's nothing new in his diet,he has only eaten certain foods since age 3
thanks so much,il be asking the doctor on friday when he has his blood tests to rule out anemia

Massage to the muscle on his calf can help. I have no idea why, but it does relieve the pain sometimes....

Charlotte complains of a stiff neck too (meningitis ALWAYS springs to mind and I ALWAYS do the rash hunt!).

Just remembered that sunlight always used to upset me too. I'd squint in the sun which would make my headache. I've only just remembered as I now wear reactolite glasses all the time so I don't suffer anymore.

Can he (or do I mean will he!) wear sunglasses on sunny days?

The best way is to keep a food diary. Write down everything he eats and drinks to see if a pattern emerges. It's a bit tedious (I know!) but at least you'll have everything there in front of you and you can't forget anything.
