Well after a lot of years of battling we now have it in writing that A has an Autistic spectrum disorder. So now it feels like a big black cloud has finally been lifted from me. Its taken 3 assessments and 3 different diagnosis so today i feel good. I know it doesnt change A but it will help him now and in the future. So the future looks bright now.

It makes me sick though that his first ever assessment was when he was 3, the 2nd Dr we saw was a psychiatrist when A was 7 now finally when he's 11 we finally get the correct diagnosis. So for all those who are battling keep up the fight its worth it in the end.

So now we just have to wait and see if he will get a place in the secondary school that has an Autism unit we find that out soon.

Thanks guys.

Bambi i guess we were lucky with the school A is in they always treated him like he had Autism anyways and he has always had a specialist teacher and a Autism package with his statement even though he has only officially been diagnosed so please hang on in their its worth the fight. You should ask if they have an Autism multi agency assessment team in your area it is a new way of diagnosing Autism so maybe they have it down your way.

It involves (on the panel) Specialist teachers,Ed Psych's, Special needs nurse a few others aswell and of course a paed.

Wink
